Our students have been hard at work learning how to use the ChompSaw, a safe and versatile cutting tool that’s perfect for young makers. The ChompSaw allows students to cut fabric, cardboard, and other materials with precision while prioritizing safety and control. Its design helps children gain confidence using real tools while learning essential safety practices — a big step toward independent making!
As our studio grows, we’re slowly transforming our workspace into a Fabrication Lab. This hands-on environment will allow students to experiment with a wider range of materials and processes. We’re also hoping to invest in a laser cutter this year, which will open up even more opportunities for precision design, model making, and creative fabrication.
This season’s project, The Tree House, explores how different materials work together. Students are experimenting with Plaster of Paris, metal wire, wood, cardboard, clay, and paint — discovering the strengths and limitations of each as they build their miniature structures.
In addition to their fabrication projects, students are developing their artist sketchbooks, evolving them throughout the school year as both a design log and a personal art journal. Many are crafting hardback books using wood, cardboard, fabric covers,
and upcycling materials found around the school — a great exercise in sustainable creativity.
Little City Studio is buzzing with invention, curiosity, and craftsmanship — one ChompSaw cut at a time!
